Vega, TX (September 12, 2025) – Three people tragically lost their lives on Monday evening, September 8, after a head-on crash on Interstate 40, about one mile west of Vega.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported the accident occurred around 6:35 p.m. A 2024 Volvo truck tractor towing a semi-trailer was travelling eastbound when it veered onto the improved shoulder. The Volvo struck the back of a parked Freightliner truck tractor before crossing the median and entering the westbound lanes.

The Volvo then collided head-on with a 2022 Honda Pilot driven by 62-year-old Ronald Momyer of Mesa, Arizona. His passengers, 61-year-old Julie Momyer and an 11-year-old boy, were also inside the vehicle. All three occupants of the Honda Pilot were killed in the crash.

The driver of the Volvo truck was not injured. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine what caused the car to leave its lane. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims during this heartbreaking time.
