Essex, CA – Motorcyclist Hurt in Crash on I-40 near MM 82.5

Essex, CA (June 28, 2024) – A severe multi-vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 40 left a motorcyclist critically injured Wednesday morning, according to officials in San Bernardino County.

The crash occurred around 11:13 a.m. on June 25 near mile marker 82.5, close to the Kelbaker Road exit in the unincorporated area of Essex. Preliminary reports indicate that a motorcycle collided with at least two passenger vehicles under circumstances that remain under investigation.

The impact ejected the rider from the motorcycle, sending them onto the freeway surface. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, paramedics, and fire rescue crews responded immediately. Given the serious nature of the injuries, an air ambulance was called to transport the motorcyclist to a nearby trauma center for urgent medical care.

Traffic was briefly stopped along I-40 as emergency teams stabilized the victim and cleared wreckage from the highway. No additional injuries have been reported among the occupants of the other vehicles involved.

Investigators with the CHP are still reviewing the crash to determine potential causes, including factors such as speed and driver behavior.

Our thoughts are with the injured rider and their family, and we wish them strength and a full recovery during this challenging time.
