Dyer, AR – Fatal Crash on I-40 Eastbound Near Mile Marker 20
Dyer, AR (October 2, 2025) – A tragic crash occurred on Monday, September 29, at approximately 12:29 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 40 near mile marker 20 in Crawford County. The accident involved a 2000 Mercury vehicle and a 2005 Freightliner truck.
According to reports, the driver of the Mercury, 62-year-old Ricky Riley from Westville, OK, attempted to make a U-turn when the Freightliner struck his vehicle. The collision caused the Freightliner to catch fire. Unfortunately, Ricky Riley was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two others were injured in the crash: 62-year-old Margaret Shewmaker of Westville, OK, who was a passenger in the Mercury, and 64-year-old Keith Woods of Cedar Hill, MO, who was driving the Freightliner. Both injured individuals were transported to Mercy Fort Smith for medical treatment.
The crash occurred in clear weather conditions on dry roads. Authorities are continuing their investigation, led by CPL. Michael Bowman of the Arkansas State Police. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the deceased, and we hope for a swift recovery for those injured.
